Tristan joined Lumen in 2001 as a fresh faced music technology
student straight out of Northbrook College, where Mark spotted his Lumen-like
approach in the studio. Tristan decided to attend Northbrook College after he
had spent far too much time and money on music equipment while at university instead
of books and quite often food!
Very much a 'new school' engineer, Tris
has always been a skilled exponent in the new breed of computer based recording
and editing systems, and all the sound bending possibilities associated with making
music in this way. Mentally reverse-engineering these processes led Tris back
to the traditional recording concepts of the 'tape and desk' studio, but with
the extra sonic possibilities that systems such as Pro Tools offer during a session.
As a producer, under his Shadowless Man alter ego, Tris has collaborated
with high flying singer-songwriter Sweet Chap (IE Music), and mans the drums for
a genre defying band. His involvement and obsessive interest in all aspects of
what makes things sound good quickly lead him to identify the key component in
this process, the musician. While many engineers and producers schooled in the
way of the computer can tend to over manipulate sounds simply because they can,
Tris always insists on that age old concept of recording the 'truth'.
