Conceived in the early nineties and opening its doors in 1994, Lumen quickly established itself as a different kind of studio operation. As early adopters of emergent digital advances and founded on principles that would come to be described as 'the project studio' ethos, Lumen from the outset was equipped to deal with the widest possible range of audio projects and built to adapt to changing priorities and principles. Always ahead of the game and ever resourceful this may in part be due to the fact that Lumen's start up was in the middle of a recession with property prices at an all time low and the bank's gloomy outlook at an all time high. The Lumen ethos was always to reach out to networks beyond the rather Brightoncentric outlook of many of our contemporaries and it was this in part that led us on to the path of record labels, production companies and most recently an in house publishing outfit.
 
Having recorded and produced hundreds of bands and completed countless successful media projects in the course of our first 15 years, the Lumen group currently consists of a recording studio production house, a record label with digital and physical distribution, and a publishing company with management and promotions support all in house. The record label, Lumenessence Recordings, was formed in 2000 and has coming up for 20 releases to its name, and Polymath Music, a publishing and music services company committed to making sense of the ever changing landscape of music promotion and sales was formed in 2006. With established partners Shellshock, IODA and Bucks Music Group on board, the Lumen group can marshal its resources and expertise to record, produce, master, promote, publish and release product from the comfort of our facility, in any format required, anywhere in the world.
