Hanover today is one of the most distinctive parts of Brighton. To walk its streets gives a feeling that is different to the rest of the city. Hanover is Hanover... the streets show a kaleidoscope of paint colours as owner occupiers express their individuality.
 
It has a fizz, a buzz, a liveliness and a sense of community that sets it apart. From being an area where in the 1920s it was reputed that the police patrolled in fours it has become a desirable area to live, particularly if you are young and sociable... the influx of (this) very different type of resident (has) only served to emphasise this sense of community. From their joint efforts came a newspaper which has developed into a book publisher, a Community Centre with a very active programme and an annual street festival that is one of the best in Brighton. It is also a hub of music, the home to a surprising number of Brighton bands.
